Nike Zoom Pegasus 36 Conclusion

I think this is a good shoe due to the simple upper, comfortable sole, and decent material + construction.

Some people have complained that this shoe is sized tight and is stiff, but my experience with the Pegasus line is that you might need a week of running in them before they fully open up and had the same experience here.

But these aren’t a breaktrhough shoe, partially because they don’t have the newest tech, and mostly because they’re very similar to the Pegasus 35 and have the same MSRP.

So, I bet you’ll likely be happy if you get these shoes, just keep in mind you might be able to save some cash going with last year’s model if you don’t care too much about ergonomic ankle fitting parts.

Nike Zoom Pegasus 36 Upper Unit

Here’s where Nike put their engineering and designers. The outsole, sole, and even part of the upper remained similar compared to the previous version. Most of the shoe changes happen just in the very top of the upper.

But I’ll go over the entire upper for those of you who aren’t looking just to see if the shoe is worth upgrading from the Pegasus 35s.

The entire upper is a simple, almost seamless mesh that wraps from the front to the rear, with only a clipped Nike logo embossed on the side.

This upper mesh isn’t a tight bootie, or super flexible/stretchy fabric like some of the other nike shoes (notably the Motion Flyknit), but is just a durable and simple mesh.

The internal structure of the mesh gets a bit denser around high stress areas of the shoe like edges of the toe and top of the lacing area.

There’s also enough structure to the heel without any bulky overlay/counter to let you slip the shoes on without feeling restricted in the heel.

The thin wrap around the back of the heel features a few stripes of reflective material which is a great thing to see on daily trainers.

The key features to examine on the upper surround the lacing system. Nike kept their Flyknit system on the shoes from the previous model, and tuned a tiny bit of it to have a more “bubbled” support below the laces.

I don’t think it’ll make much of a performance difference. What may be a performance difference is the slim tongue.

It’s an unbalanced degn where the outer part of your foot has extra fabric to more ergonomically wrap around our ankle as you wear the shoes.

I found this to rub a bit on my ankle since I didn’t position it well on my first few runs, but got the hang of it and enjoyed the asymmetrical design.

Same goes for the little lip at the end of the shoe above the heel, where it feels odd on the first few runs.

But then you get used to the “fading” feeling going up your achilles instead of a strong end to the heel that cuts back into the back of your ankle like most shoes.

One last important note about the upper is the fit. The tongue is less like a tongue, and more like the top of an inner toe wrap.

This type of upper fit system is becoming more and more common in running shoes, where there are basically two layers to the upper.

The first outer layer holds the logos, cool designs, and laces, but doesn’t fully reach across the top of the shoe since it has a gap for the tongue.

There’s then a second layer running behind the lacing system up to the tongue which makes for a much smoother and snugger fit.

This keeps the tongue from wandering around and gives the shoe 2x the fabric and extra durability around the medial and lateral sides of the shoe.

Pegasus 36 Trail Fit & Design

The Nike Pegasus 36 Trail shoes fit true to size, relative to other popular running brands. Drop a comment down below with the brand you normally run in and I’ll let you know how they fit relative to them.

Comfort while wearing the Pegasus 36 Trail is nothing short of dreamy. If you’ve run in Nike Pegasus road shoes before then you will already be familiar with this feeling, and although many trail running shoes are very comfortable nowadays, I believe these are the most comfortable I have worn to date. They are very much neutral running shoes which means you won’t get any added arch support inside the shoe, which for me is a very good thing!

The Pegasus 36 Trail is effectively an all-round road/trail hybrid running shoe that performs very well on road and trail, so you can imagine how well it performs on buffed hard ground.

Pegasus 36 Trail Upper Construction

The breathable, perforated mesh upper is very breathable allowing air and water to flow through the shoe as conditions change. You can see how breathable it is by looking at the material above the toebox area. The Pegasus 36 Trail upper has two layers, with the interior layer being more cushioned/padded, giving the sensation that your feet are being hugged and locked in place as you run over technical trails.

There’s also an inner sock that attaches the padded tongue to the forefoot area adding to that slipper-like fit. This design keeps the tongue in place, stops chafe and prevents debris from coming between your foot and the shoe walls.

There’s no finger loop on the rear of these shoes but you can easily grab onto the curved heel-support to slip them on.

Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36

Interestingly, the heel walls, in general, feel lower than many other trail shoes, allowing your feet to maneuver and adapt to the trail beneath it. At first, I thought this design may not provide a secure fit for my feet, but after I threaded the laces up to the top holes (as seen in pictures), I ended up with a very secure fit.

The toe cap is not reinforced and exists more to protect the durability of the shoes, rather than your toes, so take care towards the end of a long run if you’re getting tired and risk kicking a rock by accident, it happens! However, the plastic coated toe cap will stop water from shallow puddles entering the shoes, and the dark rubber frontage (seen in the picture above) will protect your toes somewhat. A more minimal toe cap design like this reduces overall weight in a shoe, which is obviously a good thing!

Pegasus 36 Trail Tongue & Laces

Briefly mentioned earlier, the tongue is well padded yet lightweight and slim. The lacing system is excellent, and it’s a design I’m seeing more and more on trail running shoes. Nike calls it their Flywire cables system, and if you look in some of my photos you can see these elasticated loops that connect the laces to the upper. Having this extra layer of ‘stretch’ means that your feet will stay comfortable when they expand or contract due to body/environmental temperature fluctuations.

Pegasus 36 Trail Midsole

Zoom Air units and midsole cushioning in the Pegasus 36 Trail offer responsive comfort that’s pretty unique to the Nike brand. It’s so nice to feel this on the trails (not just the roads). The midsole is also very flexible toward the forefoot, which is essential for a trail shoe that needs to conform to the ground beneath it. A shoe that can flex also means your feet and use their joints and muscles in a more natural manner. The Zoom Air midsole cushioning, along with good breathability and lightweight construction makes this shoe a great choice for ultrarunning too.

Pegasus 36 Trail Outsole

The outsole stretches wide in the forefoot giving you more surface area to spread your weight across. This makes running further or faster, feel more comfortable and effortless.

The outsole also features a flex groove down the center that gives a smooth and stable ride, while letting your feet roll and flex on uneven surfaces, which is what our feet were designed to do. I found the grip to be very good on buffed, rocky and dirt trails.

Drop & Weight

The drop from heel to toe is 10mm. A lower drop could potentially give this shoe an even better feel for the trails when the terrain gets extra technical.

Weighing in at 9.17oz (260g) for a size US (M) 9 the Nike Pegasus 36 Trail is a very lightweight trail shoe, especially considering all the cushioning in the midsole. More size/weight specs:

• US (M) 10: 292.8g, 10.3oz
• US (W) 8: 233.3g, 8.2oz

Toe Box

The toe box is roomy enough to allow your toes to splay out for a more natural stride and greater control on the trails. The width of the shoe, in general, is medium and will fit slightly wider than average feet nicely too. It is not a narrow shoe like La Sportiva and Salomon.

Pegasus 36 Trail GTX Upper Construction

The mesh upper is very durable and 100% waterproof but not particularly breathable, this will keep your feet dry and warm though, which is perfect for cold weather winter runs. The Pegasus 36 Trail GTX upper wraps comfortably and securely around your feet as you tackle technical trail sections.

There’s also an inner sock that attaches the padded tongue to the forefoot area adding to that slipper-like fit. This design keeps the tongue in place, stops chafe and prevents debris from coming between your foot and the shoe walls.

Like the Pegasus Trail 36, the GTX has no finger loop on the rear of these shoes but you can easily grab onto the curved heel-support to slip them on.

The interesting curved achilles heel support, similar to that of the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 an the Nike Pegasus 36 Trail, works very well for me as it allows for a little bit of over-striding when running fast downhill, without agitating my achilles.

Nike ZoomX VaporFly Next%

Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo 2

Nike Zoom Pegasus 36 Sole Unit

Nike gives the Pegasus line of shoes a strong appearance via the sole. But only recently (Pegasus 35s) have they started to warp this pod/square pattern, especially towards the back of the sole.

They still keep their stripped ‘crash pad’ along the lateral side of the sole though which makes the shoes squeak a bunch on tile/brick.

Their overall similar outsole design to the rest of the Pegasus line will keep all the regular customers of the Pegasus shoe happy, but won’t thrill them much either.

This layout of the sole keeps it pretty darn durable without making it too heavy. Not as much coverage as the Saucony Freedom Iso shoes, or the Fresh Foam line of shoes from New Balance.

Just enough though to keep this shoe pretty durable since you don’t need much rubber below the heel.

The sole is about as good on the track as it is on the roads or treadmill. Also good in the wet, which isn’t something you can say about Nike’s foam outsoles on many of their free and even Vapor Fly shoes.

Within the sole of the Pegasus 36 is “Premium Cushlon foam” and “Zoom Air” in the forefoot and heel. Cushlon foam is a step above Nike’s Phylon (EVA) foam since it has rubber additives to make it lightweight and responsive.

The Zoom Air is actually a low-profile airbag put in the shoe to reduce the weight of the shoe a little and to provide a more cushioned pad to land on.

You won’t notice it in a quick test, but can feel it just below your big toes when stomping down in a forefoot landing. It’s very well done, and feels more like a softer foam than an air mattress.

If you’re looking for more cushion, you should check out Nike shoes with React foam like the Nike Legend React.

Sitting on top of everything is a pretty standard Nike insole with 5mm of padding (as measured by my calipers) and 1/2mm of breathable fabric. Again, like most things in the Pegasus shoe, this is pretty standard.

That’s one thing to consider with these types of 2+mm thick insoles. The squishiness is there for a few hundred miles, and then your foot gradually compresses the foam into a very custom fit for your feet.

That’s why it’s sometimes hard to find a new pair of shoes that fit as well as your old pair of kicks.

Рекомендую ли я Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 35 или нет

Да, если вам нравились Nike Pegasus 34 или 33. Апгрейд до 35-х вашим ногам точно придется по душе.

Да, если вы новичок и хотите взять пока что одну, но уверенно качественную и универсальную пару беговой обуви.

Да, если вы не знаете, с какой беговой модели Nike вам начать знакомство с брендом.

Нет, если вы весите больше 80-85 кг. Рекомендую посмотреть на максимально амортизирующие модели от Asics, Hoka или Adidas.

Having an extra layer of ‘stretch’ (like in the flywire system) means that your feet can stay comfortable when they expand or contract due to body/environmental temperature fluctuations, unfortunately, the GTX uses a more rigid system, and I don’t know why Nike decided to go with this setup instead. Maybe it was to keep the cost and weight down, if anyone at Nike has a definitve answer for me please drop it in the comments below.

Well, Nike has done it again, and I can confidently say that the Pegasus 36 Trail GTX is now my current favorite waterproof trail shoe for winter running. It’s a high-performance trail running shoe that feels just as comfortable on the road as it does on the trails. The Pegasus 36 Trail GTX should actually be labeled as a waterproof road/trail hybrid, or a door-to-trail running shoe because it performs equally well on both surfaces. Contributing to the comfort is the Nike Air Zoom midsole that provides plenty of protection from sharp rocks. It’s also super lightweight, has lots of reflective hits for the safety-conscious, responsive, and very grippy.

I love the curved achilles heel support. It works very well for me as it allows for a little bit of over-striding when running fast downhills, without agitating my achilles. At $160 I feel that the Nike Pegasus 36 Trail GTX is reasonably priced too, especially considering the protection it provides and how durable it is.

I have awarded the Nike Pegasus 36 Trail GTX an Editor’s Choice Award, and they currently sit at the top of my list of the ‘5 Best Waterproof Trail Running Shoes for Fall/Winter‘ gear guide.

My current favorite all-round trail shoe, the Nike Pegasus 36 Trail is a high-performance trail running shoe that’s so comfortable it feels like a road running shoe. The Pegasus 36 Trail could actually be labeled as a road/trail hybrid, or a door-to-trail running shoe because quite honestly it performs very well on both surfaces. Contributing to the comfort is the Nike Air Zoom midsole that provides plenty of protection from sharp rocks. The Pegasus 36 Trail is also very lightweight at 9.17oz (260g), breathable, responsive, and very grippy.

I love the curved achilles heel support, it works very well for me as it allows for a little bit of over-striding when running fast downhills, without agitating my achilles. In fact, it works so well, that my second run in the Nike Pegasus 36 Trail resulted in me earning a 1 mile PB, albeit on a fire road with a downhill gradient. ?

Кроссовки подойдут на узкую и средней ширины стопу. Стопа плотно фиксируется в области подъема, а в передней части остается достаточно места, чтобы свободно шевелить пальцами.

Хорошая фиксация достигается специальными стропами, через которые проходят шнурки. В предыдущих моделях эту роль выполняли нити, теперь их заменили на широкие стропы. На мой взгляд, стало лучше. Стропы фиксируют равномернее и более плотно.

Nike Zoom Pegasus 36 Intro

The Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 is a relatively simple shoe, designed to please many runners at a reasonable price. It features a neutral platform with a 10mm offset and weighs a slightly speedy 9.9 ounces in men’s size 10.

Similar shoes in this area would be the New Balance 860v9 or the Saucony Ride. All of these shoes are not the at the cutting edge of running shoe tech, but have a great set of features designed for all levels of runners.

The Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36s are just the only one with an air pouch in the shoe (hence the “Air Zoom” part in the name), but I will be referring to them as the “Nike Pegasus 36s” for most of this review.

Подходят для регулярных тренировок на любые дистанции, марафонов и восстановительных кроссов.

What’s the difference between the Nike Pegasus 36 Trail GTX and the Pegasus 36 Trail?

You may think that the Nike Pegasus 36 Trail GTX is just a waterproof version of the Pegasus 36 Trail, and to some extent it is, but there’s actually a whole lot more to them than just the additional water protection, which you will learn more about later in this review. The key differences between the Nike Pegasus 36 Trail GTX and the Pegasus 36 Trail are as follows:

• The GTX version has a fully waterproof membrane upper which is impermeable to water (you’ll see just how good it is later in this review).
• The GTX version is not as breathable due to it’s waterproof upper but they will keep your feet dry and warm during your cold/wet weather winter runs.
• The GTX is 1oz. lighter.
• The GTX doesn’t have Nike’s Flywire cable lacing system.
• The GTX version is more reflective which adds additional safety while running at night.
• The GTX is not quite as flexible due to the waterproof upper and lacing system.
• They both have the same great all-terrain and hybrid running feel overall.

К сожалению, говорят, Nike Pegasus 35 не ходят больше 400-500 км без потери своих упругих и амортизирующих свойств. Это меня немного печалит. Если Пегасы будут вашей единственной парой и вы, скажем, начинающий или опытный любитель, то вы прикончите подошву этих кроссовок где-то за 3-6 месяцев. Если пар разной беговой обуви у вас несколько, как у меня, то сильно переживать не стоит. Но лично я их полюбил, и буду грустить, когда придет время использовать их все реже. Сейчас они прошли уже около 200 км и дарят мне массу удовольствия.

Стабильность

В категорию стабильность входят кроссовки с поддержкой стопы при плоскостопии и избыточной пронации. Рекомендуем людям с избыточным весом, слабыми стопами и различными нарушениями работы свода стопы.

Nike Air Zoom Structure 22 и Structure 22 Shield

Кроссовки с поддержкой свода стопы и более чем 20-ти летней историей. Амортизация Cushlon со вставками Zoom Air, вставка Dynamic Support для поддержки стопы. Верх из дышащей сетки с нитями Flywire для фиксации стопы. Модель подойдет для избыточной пронации разной степени и любых дистанций. Рекомендуем людям с избыточным весом и слабыми мышцами стоп.

Nike React Infinity Run

Nike React Infinity Run – объединение наработок моделей Epic React и Vaporfly. Верх кроссовок сделан из нового материала Flyknit Loft. В отличие от обычного Flyknit он состоит из 3-х слоев – стал значительно прочнее и лучше фиксирует стопу. Амортизация из пены React, которая создана для конкуренции с Adidas Boost. Слой амортизации очень толстый – 30 мм пены React дают очень приятную, пружинящую амортизацию. Форма подошвы с увеличенным перекатом и шириной для большей стабильности, стало больше места в области пальцев.

На презентации модели Nike заявил, что React Infinity снижает вероятность травм на 52% со ссылкой на собственное исследование. Это не более, чем маркетинговый ход. В исследовании участвовали всего 226 человек, при этом нет никаких данных об их состоянии здоровья, беговом опыте и технике бега. Nike выпустили классную модель, но от травм она убережет не лучше других кроссовок с хорошей амортизацией.

Nike React Infinity Run – универсальная модель с хорошей амортизацией для бегунов любого уровня. В них комфортно бегать восстановительные и длительные тренировки, хорошо отрабатывают приземление на любую часть стопы и помогают отталкиванию.

Nike React Miler

Nike React Miler – новая модель на базе Epic React с другим материалом верха и геометрией подошвы. Амортизация из пены React, геометрия подошвы с выраженным перекатом от пятки к носку. Толщина подошвы как у Infinity Run, но более жесткий верх со стабилизирующими вставками и больше резиновой подметки на подошве.

Кроссовки подходят для регулярных тренировок на любые дистанции, марафонов и восстановительных кроссов.

• Пронация: нейтральная, гиперпронация
• Масса мужской модели – 290 г, женской – 242 г
• Перепад: 10 мм

Nike Zoom Pegasus 36 First Impressions

Let’s do a quick history check on the Nike Pegasus line. It’s the 36th version right now, so it’s been around for many years, and originated from the idea that shoes should be affordable, durable, and comfortable.

Nike stays close to this since the shoe is well below the high end shoe price points at $180+, the shoe contains a full length rubber outsole and durable upper, and the shoe has been slowly crafted to fit an average foot as best as possible.

The shoe does miss out on high level tech like the Epic React Flyknits, or the crazy carbon fiber soles found in the Zoom VaporFly Elites. The shoe just is there to give you the tried and tested tech that Nike has to offer right now.

The previous version of these shoes weighed exactly the same, so there’s not much of a need to upgrade for weight.

The midsole appears to be nearly identical to the predecessor, along with the general layout of the upper, so styling shouldn’t be a reason to upgrade either.

The biggest changes from the predecessor are mostly in the upper around your heel, where Nike thinned out the tongue, made the heel counter and fabric around it sleeker and made some slight edits to the Flywire attachments.

This can make or break the shoe for diehard Pegasus fans since issues around the ankle can be frustrating.

I’ve loved the Pegasus line of shoes, or maybe I love them so much since I hit 2000+ miles in a pair of the Nike Pegasus 29s.

Since then, I’ve gained this review gig and don’t need to stress test my body like that, but do believe the Nike Pegasus line is generally pretty durable and a good average bet.

I last tested the Nike Pegasus 34s, so the jump to the newer sleeker look was new to me.

Lacing them up was a little tricky as I wanted to make the Flywire setup as comfortable as possible, and it first folded into the shoe around the heel when I put the shoes on.

Nike Zoom Pegasus 36 – Closeup

Minor gripe, but enough that I decided to write it in here. I figured it out at home with these shoes and blasted out a 13 mile run for my first effort in these guys.

Didn’t regret it at all, but made sure to keep them in my rotation over the next 50 miles of testing (and probably hit 100 miles in them by the time I got to this review). I found some subtle things in the shoe during these test miles.

А что там с Nike Pegasus 36?

Совсем недавно вышло следующее поколение модели – и я уже посмотрел несколько зарубежных обзоров. Если коротко: то новая модель ничем не отличается от старой, кроме вязаной ткани верха кроссовок (сейчас это тренд). Ну и язычок урезали, сделали его тоньше, легче. Все остальные ощущения от кроссовок и то, как в них бежится, остались прежними.

Поэтому если кроме 35-й модели вы поглядываете на новую 36-ю… что ж, я советую не переплачивать за сомнительный апгрейд и постараться найти 35-е Пегасы по скидке за 5500–7000 руб. (я свои покупал вначале 2019 года за 7900 руб.). Потому что сейчас они начнут продаваться дешевле как прошлогодняя версия.

А про 35-е еще добавлю: есть версии Shield и Turbo. Первая – с другим материалом верха, более плотным, типа для бега в мокрую погоду или зимой, хотя подошва там такая же. Вторая – якобы для еще более быстрых забегов и тренировок, но по факту разницы тоже мало, а качество исполнения, говорят, хуже.
